70s Birthday Cake
70s cake I made for my sil's birthday. The
disco ball is blurry in the outdoors pictures because it was spinning (yes, it really spins!)
Triple chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ganache filling, fondant
covered, fondant accents. The disco ball was not edible. :)
Wow that's gorgeous! How did you do the disco dancers silhouette?
ReplyDeleteI found an image online (this one is everywhere) and then printed it out and used it as a template to cut black fondant. Then let it dry a couple days. It was still a little soft, but it worked out better because it fit the round cake. Thanks for the compliment!
DeleteI would love to be able to use a spinning disco ball for a cake I'm making for my cousin!!! Would you mind sharing how you did this? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI actually found a mini disco ball on line, that has it's own base (that's how it spins). The ball itself is detachable from the base, so I took the ball off, covered the base in fondant making sure to cut out space for the on/off switch and making sure the fondant didn't cover any moving parts, and then put the ball back on and added cut outs. It worked out pretty well, and so was so excited it spun! :) Wish I was stellar like Duff and could make actual cake spin, but admittedly, I'm not. :) Have fun, and good luck!
DeleteThanks Connie!
