    1. Tara, this was done with silver pearl dust mixed slightly with clear vanilla, then painted all over the cake (over grey fondant) with a paint brush. You don't want to mix too much vanilla in, just enough to make the dust a thick, paint-like consistency. I recommend adding a drop at a time until you get the consistency to where you want it. I chose to do it this way because all I could find was edible spray paint, and I don't care for how the spray paints run - too tough to control. Good luck, and thanks for the compliment!

  2. How did you make the round tool things, not sure what they are called?

    1. I found some images (drawings) of gears on the internet and printed them out to use as a template so I could get the basic designs. Then I rolled out fondant and used an exacto knife to cut around them. I used small round cutters to cut out the centers or do the indents, and did some touch ups by hand to make them look more gear-like. I let them dry, then painted them with silver pearl dust mixed with a little vanilla to make a paint consistency. And that's about it. Thanks for visiting! :)

  4. This is a very nice cake. My son loves it. May we use your design for his 5th birthday? He has been asking me for a transformers cake for his birthday since last year. He has an optimus prime action figure which we can put on top. We will also ask my friend to make cupcakes with tools/wheels/gears on top. Thank you!

    1. This design was based on another cake I found. I changed things a bit to make it mine, but it wasn't originally mine. That being said, feel free to copy my design for your son's cake. I hope he enjoys it as much as my nephew did! Thanks for the compliments, and for stopping by!
